The Church of St John of Nepomuk handed over to the Church

The Church of St John of Nepomuk has been given back to the church after 50 years. On Wednesday 27 August  2014 the representatives of the Brno Bishopric, Roman Catholic Parish in Žďár nad Sázavou II signed the agreement with National Heritage Institute (NPÚ) of handing over the property according to the law of property compensation between the state and the church. The area of pilgrim Church of St John of Nepomuk at Zelená hora together with the cemetary (Dolní hřbitov) has been under the administration of the church since 28 August 2014.

General 1 ZH5Žďár nad Sázavou: The church built between 1719 – 1722 under the abbot Václav Vejmluva is back in administration of the church after more than 50 years. The area of the church which is the masterpiece of architect Jan Blažej Santini Aichl was added to the UNESCO Heritage List for its unique artistic values in 1994. The request to return the pilgrim Church of St John f Nepomuk at Zelená hora was handed over by the Brno Bishopric on 27 June 2013. On 25 June 2014 the National Heritage Institute informed that after thorough examination of the request and the obtained materials came to the conclusion that there are no obstacles to give over the pilgrim area of the Church of St John of Nepomuk at Zelená hora. Brno Bishopric as well as the Roman Catholic Parish in Žďár nad Sázavou appreciated the constructive and responsive attitude of the National Heritage Institute and declared readiness to dealings heading towards the agreement of handing over the area with the pilgrim church at Zelená hora.

Vladimir Záleský, the priest into whose administration the pilrgrim area at Zelená hora is going to belong, says: „Our parish has taken over also three current emploees which helps us to provide at least present level of service. As I have already said, we would like to return the Church of St John of Nepomuk to regular pilgrimage services and ceremonies and provide spiritual services to pilgrim groups but we also want to make it accessible for everybody who wants to see this pearl of architecture and our spiritual history. We also plan to offer the visitors more possibilities during the off-season when most sights are closed. Wide range of spiritual cultural programmes and concerts are planned ass well as suitable educational programmes for schools. We would like to increase the quality of the UNESCO monument presentation and tourist services through dutiful choice, education and training of our tourist guides."
