"Numbers are a manifestation of divine wisdom in our world, accessible to the knowledge of the human spirit."
(St Augustine)

  • Number 3: The three stars were the personal symbol of Abbot Václav Vejmluva. The equilateral triangle symbolizes the Holy Trinity. We encounter this symbol on the windows and on the main altar of the church.
  • Number 5: The symbol of the five wounds of Christ and five stars above the head of St John of Nepomuk. The Latin word TACUI (I was silent) has five letters, expressing the cause of St John's martyrdom for the confessional secret. The five letters V are in the name of Abbot Václav Wejmluva.
  • Number 6: A six-pointed star, called Solomon's seal or David's shield, is one of the symbols of the Virgin Mary. Six-pointed stars are depicted in the halo around the head of St John of Nepomuk.
  • Number 8: The number of rebirth and renewal of the world. The eight-pointed star is also a symbol of the Virgin Mary and a symbol of the Cistercians.
  • Number 9: The number symbolized by three intertwined triangles is a sign of the perfection of life, its completion and fulfillment. Nine is the number of blessed angels who support the order of the heavenly spheres.
  • Number 12: It symbolizes completeness (12 months of the year, 12 hours of the day, 12 tribes of Israel, 12 apostles, 12 stars of the Virgin Mary, etc.). The floor plan of the church nave at Zelena Hora is written into a circle with a radius of 12 Prague cubits. There are nine of these circles in total, 9 x 12 = 108 (the sum of the individual numerals in this number is also nine).
