A native of Ústí nad Orlicí, parish priest and writer. He studied at the Piarist grammar school in Prague, then at the Faculty of Arts. He was ordained a priest in 1801, then worked in Sebranice near Kunštát, Bystré near Polička, and Německá Bělá.

He spent thirteen years as a priest in Jimramov, and this stay is considered to be his most fruitful literary period. In 1824, he became a priest in Žďár nad Sázavou. Here, in addition to his usual duties, he devoted himself to saving of the church of St John of Nepomuk at Zelená Hora, which was on the verge of destruction. Sychra dedicated his life and finances to the church at Zelená Hora. He was buried in a grave in the grounds of the pilgrimage church of St John of Nepomuk.
